Eliphas Levi
Eliphas Lévi (1810–1875) was a French occultist, magician, and writer who helped bridge ancient esoteric traditions with modern Western occultism. His most influential works, Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie and The History of Magic, revived and synthesized Kabbalah, Tarot, alchemy, and ceremonial magic, shaping the foundations of 19th and 20th-century occult thought. Lévi popularized the image of the Baphomet as a symbol of duality and cosmic balance and saw magic as a spiritual science based on willpower and symbolism. His teachings heavily influenced later esoteric groups like the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and Thelema.
